Illustration Covenant Supporters

Covenant Supporters are defined as not-for-profit organisations (associations of local and regional authorities, networks, thematic agencies …) with the capacity to promote the Covenant of Mayors and to mobilise and support their members and/or local authorities to reach the Covenant of Mayors’ objectives.

They take action on their territories and areas of expertise (e.g. energy, environment, water, air), and at different levels of governance (e.g. European, national, and regional/local) to promote the Covenant of Mayors initiative and support the commitments of their signatories. With expert knowledge of the regulatory, legislative and financial framework under which they operate - be it at the local/regional, national or European level – Covenant Supporters are ideally placed to provide tailored advice to signatories and identify synergies with existing initiatives.

Sauris (UD): an example of quality policies
Category: Other
Description: In 1983 Sauris was the 1st Municipality to benefit from a Regional law whose aim was to protect environmental, historical and artistic values to answer to the distruction carried out by the earthquake of 1976 that layed waste in many towns of the territory. So, the local community conceived the "Sauris Project" to provide the town important infrastructures, to recover valuable buildings without upsetting their urban and architectural order and to create the essential requirement to make Sauris become a "tourist town" with the subsequent realization of the "Albergo Diffuso", an innovative tourist hospitality structure. The Albergo Diffuso counts on 28 flats (130 sleeping accomodations) situated in traditional buildings in different historical Sauris areas. Together with the Albergo Diffuso, local administrations have promoted the same valorisation of other hospitality structures. Subsequent intervenctions pertained to the completion of primary urbanization works, such as, for example, parking areas, doctor's offices, a hall for social activities, a conference hall with 120 seats inside an old restructured building. The "Sauris Project" has also been a valorisation project for local cultural traditions: two information centres have been realized (ethnographic information centre and historical information centre).
