Shaping a Green Recovery through the EU Green Deal

    Organiser: Covenant of Mayors office

    9:30-11:30 CEST

This session is part of the Climate Alliance Digital Days

Will the EU focus its recovery efforts on building a better, greener Europe or will it waste this opportunity by entrenching outdated business-as-usual models? How can the EU Green Deal support the energy and climate transition already under-way at the local level and how can it set the right framework conditions to ensure sustainable development of cities? This session will explore the current window of opportunity for much needed systemic change and what the EU is making of it.

The intention of the session is to provide the framing of the current EU climate strategy and action. Expert panellists will reflect on the role of sub-national gov-ernments in shaping current major climate policy trends and the link to the Euro-pean level. A central role is giving to the transformative power of city networks, emphasising the driving principles of Climate Alliance.
